My Students

My 4th grade students and I have been together since first grade. Being together for the past 3 1/2 years has been a remarkably powerful experience. The students and I are developing a deep understanding of and an empathy for one another. We have become a close knit group. We will be on this journey together through the 8th grade.

My students are curious, happy, and eager for a challenge in all aspects of their education.

We go on overnight field trips to have authentic experiences about the academic subjects being studied. Being outside of the classroom on these adventures helps to keep my students engaged and loving school.

My Project

Our adventure will take place at Pigeon Point Lighthouse State Historic Park on the Pacific Ocean 50 miles south of San Francisco. A team of naturalists will lead my students in exploring the inter-tidal region of the Pacific coast, the surrounding redwood trees, as well as the riparian ecosystem all found within a few miles of our base camp.

The focus for this trip will be on exploring the natural world in order to become good stewards of our land and waters.

In addition, the students will learn what it takes to become responsible citizens through team building and cooperation.

The curriculum is aligned with CA State Standards, focuses on three strands:

Nature Appreciation and Understanding

Cooperation and Teamwork

Citizenship and Empowerment
