I am a 6th grade English, spelling, reading, and social studies teacher in Slidell, LA. In a community completely affected by Hurricane Katrina, my students have limited accessibility to books and materials. Our schoolwide budget has also been cut, making the opportunity to buy resources impossible for the remainder of the year. Copies on the copier have even been limited due to cost of paper and machine repair. I would love to have an Elmo projector in my classroom in order to display books, artwork, visuals, and other examples. Students will be able to show off their illustrations while reading their stories. This projector will plug into my computer and display onto the mounted TV in my classroom. Any material can be placed under the projector, and the contents are displayed right away. This piece of equipment will help keep students on task by allowing them the opportunity to visualize the content. This projector will take the place of the overhead projector by allowing me not only the ability to place written material on it, but also three dimensional objects as well. Students will be able to use this resource in various activities they do in all subject areas. During group presentations, students will be able to use the projector to display the various elements of their activity. This is a fairly new piece of technology; so by training my students to be familiar with it now, they will have the knowledge of the latest and greatest.
