Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a public school where over 90% of the students receive free or reduced lunch. My students are in desperate need of technology in the classroom that will help them grasp the ropes toward higher education.
My students struggle with the ability to read and write effectively, skills that are necessary for success in college. In order to effectively teach reading skills, such as text annotation and writing skills such as research citation, I need to repeatedly model it for my students. This kind of modeling is almost impossible when I don't have a projector and my access to making copies is often limited.
The ELMO projector technology would be an incredible benefit to my students because I would be able to model skills such as text annotation and research citation in a much more user-friendly and efficient way. I could model proper research writing techniques using research documents with the Elmo. I could put passages from texts on the Elmo projector and clearly model for my students how to find the main idea and author's purpose in the passage. My students ability to visualize information and how to correctly approach reading and writing will certainly aid them in their pursuit of college.
If you fund this project you would be helping disadvantaged students receive vital resources they need in their pursuit of college. I know first hand that all students can learn, but my students are at a significant disadvantage in their path to college. There simply are not as many resources at their disposal as their more affluent counterparts. Therefore, I implore you to take part in this project to make sure that all students are getting access to the best classroom resources available.
