My Students
My students are special because they have to beat the odds of becoming a statistic. They are faced with many types of adversities daily, and many of them work hard to overcome those obstacles. I want them to know that they can become productive citizens and become someone great.
Currently, one of my students' main obstacles is hunger.
Our school is in a 100% free and reduced-price lunch area, and many of our children come to school without the proper nutrition to begin their day. My very bright students are usually very hungry in the morning and just before going home. I am proud that our district provides them with free breakfast and lunch; however, many of them do not eat dinner, and this breaks my heart. My goal is to eliminate overnight hunger for my students and provide each student with a snack to hold them over until the following morning.
My Project
Providing snacks for my students will help them to overcome a major obstacle, hunger. Many of my students struggle to work beyond the classroom because their tummies are louder than their bright minds.
I hope to somewhat eliminate the voice of hunger through the provision of a take home snack at the end of their school day.
I believe a small snack will make a big difference for my students who do not have access to a very basic need, food.
