My students are in the primary grade level in an extensive support needs class. All of them have exceptional needs. The lessons I typically prepare are mostly modified and scaffolded to their specific learning skill level. This way I can ensure a more meaningful connection of their learning activities and high interest topics that pushes more growth in their functional academic skills. They are energetic, excited to learn and full of curiosities. They are very engaged in lessons about science and nature and all of them enjoy in-home experiments with daily common items. Being their teacher, I get to see how the magic unfolds in their eyes in every session. Truly, they are my inspiration!
As our world does its best to heal with all the challenges we’ve all experienced in these profound times, our students have endured so much, balancing social emotional learning and functional academic growth.
The effects of this are more apparent in the population of students with exceptional needs. During remote learning, unexpected challenges such as falling back on computer programs, lost data and documents, and low-quality visual supports impede an engaging functional lesson.
My Project
The use of technology has reached its maximum height now that learning has been prompted to undergo an uncommon change; learning from a distance. With this project, my students will be able to access lessons and interactive activities in a flash. I plan to highlight social and emotional learning with intensified Visual Supports, a well known evidence based practice to effectively deliver instruction for students under the umbrella of Autism Spectrum Disorder. With this goal in mind, I am determined to put forth more focus in building my students' emotional intelligence and increase their ability to understand, use and manage their own emotions in positive ways to take control of the stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others and overcome highly challenging situations independently.
These unprecedented times have prompted more creative changes in the way our learners receive instruction and with these unfathomable changes, educators are drawn out of the mold to think more unconventionally to challenge all learners and provide exceptional quality of education amidst these trying times.
I have chosen this material to help students push the boundaries set by the limitations we currently have due to the pandemic. Armed with its powerful core processor, the transition of activities will be flawless as the students are presented with a timely organization of lessons in their learning groups. This project is set to make more learning goals achievable through the unlimited learning resources accessible online.
