Our students come from many diverse backgrounds. 100% of our students receive a free lunch. We attend an inner city school, where more than half of the students commute for the education we provide. We have healthy foods and a garden, and we speak seven different languages at home.

My Project
Students love experiments, observations, and keeping science notebooks. We plan to notebook our daily Science explorations in the grid composition books. When making mixtures and solutions, each table will be able to watch their concoctions in their personal test tube. With our microscopes, students will be able to examine the microscopic world with the biology slides. Our journals will be the colors of nature with our crayons and pens. Students will make sure our school and home water is lead free with our water testing kits. With a class set of safety goggles for our lab, students will start good lab habits they will use throughout their education.
Each year my students are excited about Science, and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) are very fun!
Testing water from our home and school taps, is an interesting way to make science real! Using real Science notebooks, looking at slides in Biology and wearing safety goggles makes the lab real!
At the end of 5th grade, the fifth grade scientists have a good vision of what Science careers are a good focused goal.
