I am a music teacher for students in grades K-8 in the south side of Chicago. In general music classes students create music, dance, perform on instruments, sing, and study historical and theoretical elements of music. I also direct an afterschool violin program based on the philosophies of Shiniki Suzuki and Paul Rolland. The violin program is a weekly, tuition free program thar originated this year from Donors Choose contributors. The school currently owns 12 violins, and all 12 violins were donated by Donors Choose contributors. The violin books and extra violin strings were donated as well. Renting or purchasing an instrument for a child is not an option for many families so we depend on the generosity of individuals. In the violin program, students play on the instrument borrowed from the school for the course of their enrollment in the program. Admission to the violin program is strictly based on interest and availibity of instruments. Sadly, many more students are interested in playing the violin than I have instruments for. For this proposal, Elementary School Strings- Part 4, I am requesting 3 full sized violins and bows. I am also requesting 3 sets of replacement violin strings in addition to extra violin E strings. This proposal will provide 3 budding violinists with instruments. It will lay down the foundations of a string program, and it will generate interest in other students who may choose to join the program in the future. Thank you for your interest and consideration.
