Our general music program compliments the diverse backgrounds and cultures of my students while fostering creativity and self-expression. It is a place to build respect, to work hard, and to be a part of something truly inspiring--making music!

Adding ukuleles to our classroom instruments will allow my students to take true ownership over their musicianship and get enough playing time for meaningful music instruction. My students are extremely musical and crave the resources to be able to create their own music, bring their favorite music into our classroom, and accompany themselves while singing and improvising. I have a diverse group of students who all have something musical to say, but we need some ukuleles to help them say it!
My Project
Learning the ukulele can build an important foundation for life-long music making. Students will learn to accompany themselves while singing folk songs, popular music, and other simple tunes. This enables students to make music whenever and wherever they want. Students will also learn to accompany themselves while improvising and creating their own music. Through harmonic learning on the ukulele, students will gain listening skills to help enable them to hear a song they like and figure out how to play it on their own! They can truly take ownership of their own musicianship.
My goals as a music educator are to inspire a love of music in my students and provide them with music skills that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.
The important music skills learned on the ukulele can lead to lifelong ukulele playing, guitar, piano, or even an interest in jazz improvisation! The possibilities are endless for where students can go after learning the ukulele! Donating to this project can truly change the musicianship opportunities for my students.
