We have 20 students in our school who are identified that go home to empty cupboards and limited food on the weekend. These students know when the electricity bill is due. They know when rent is due. However, they may not know if they have food to eat on the weekend.
For these students, facing hunger at home is a daily challenge.
Getting the energy and nutrition they need to learn, grow, and develop is a challenge. Children who are struggling with hunger often have parents who are, too. These families need extra meals simply because they don't have money to buy enough food. Most of these families resort to buying less nutritious, affordable food to be able to provide enough food for their family.
My Project
Every Friday, our students head home with a bag of food. Each kid gets two breakfasts, two lunches and two dinners, two fruit, two vegetables, plus some healthy snacks. Without these backpack meals, they’d go hungry.
Our students often go home to empty cupboards and little food over the weekend.
Our Food Pantry gives those students the security they need in food. Each Friday, students are sent home with a grocery bag of food.
Our Food Pantry cares for 20 students each week. That is 20 students who take home enough food for two days. As you can imagine, food comes and goes quickly. Recently, our donations have not been able to keep up with the high number of students. We are asking for support to get us through the rest of the school year.
