I have the pleasure of teaching math, science, and geography to fifty-two 5th grade high-ability students. These kids are some of the most creative, imaginative, and motivated students I've ever had the privilege of working with.
My students come from all different backgrounds but are joined in their commonality of exceeding performance goals in their grade level.
They are currently working a full-grade year ahead in their math curriculum. They have a work ethic and drive that is parallel to none.
My students bring a smile to my face each and every day. They not only perform well academically but also are compassionate, empathetic, and caring. I know they will go on to do amazing things in life!
The materials in this project will allow my students to participate in learning experiences that foster creativity and perseverance! This project will provide my students with the materials needed to complete two different STEM projects: making an LED flashlight and making a simple pneumatic machine, both from raw materials and a detailed set of instructions.
These experiences will be highly engaging and will also require innovation, ingenuity, collaboration, and problem solving.
These are invaluable skills that can't be acquired from a textbook. Kids need these kinds of hands-on learning opportunities to stretch their minds and challenge themselves to think outside the box!
