Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

AP Biology is one of the hardest classes students take in high school.

My AP Biology students are the top students at school.

They have voluntarily chosen to take this rigorous class for a variety of reasons. Some are interested in gaining college credit while others are looking for more experience in hands-on labs.

My Project

The new AP Biology curriculum is inquiry-based and student-driven. The labs especially have been redesigned to include the most up-to-date science practices and techniques. One of the major labs is on restriction enzymes and electrophoresis. In this lab, students are given a mock crime scene and asked to analyze various DNA samples using electrophoresis and mathematical models in order to solve the crime. With this DNA electrophoresis class kit and lab station, my students will be doing college-level work!

When budgeting in high poverty schools, biotechnology equipment is often low priority due to its cost.

A generous donation to this project will help my students have access to the same equipment and lab activities as their more affluent counterparts.
