Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are part of a diverse, economically challenged neighborhood. Hispanic, Vietnamese, Philipino, African American, White and other students work together collaboratively and learn from each other. More than 60% are learning English as their second language.
My students reflect what defines America.
They are a multicultural blend of dreams, ambitions and drive. Many are overcoming severe obstacles including fragmented families, economic insecurity, crime, learning disabilities, mental health issues and language barriers, but none of that prevents them from wanting to succeed.
My Project
These science supplies, such as the electricity kit and pan balance, will help my students complete hands-on science experiments.
They will be able to build and learn all about parallel circuits.
They will learn what it takes to complete a circuit. They will also use the building sets to engineer bridges, tunnels and other shapes. These supplies will be housed in our new STEM lab, so that every child in our school, K-6, have access to them.
These supplies will help our students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These skills will benefit them not only in science, but in other academic areas, as well.
