My students are an enthusiastic, engaged, and inquisitive group of 4th graders. My students love creating things and all activities that require being hands-on. These students cheer when it is time for science and will tell you that there are 2 future astronauts, a future lab scientist, and a future physicist in the room.
I love that my students are curious about how things work and are excited with each inquiry we perform.
Our school is in Cleveland, Ohio only a few blocks from the shores of Lake Erie. Our class is a class of English language learners from four different continents. This class comes together with diverse backgrounds and experiences, which makes everyday a learning opportunity in so many ways.
My Project
Adding these science kits to our 4th grade science curriculum will give my students a chance to participate in their discovery of electricity and magnetism...not just simply read about it. Students love to participate in experiments, figure out how things work, and ask questions that can stump adults. We do not have resources that will enable my students to create their own electrical circuits or conduct advanced individual experiments with magnetism. These kits will provide my students with critical tools for learning.
As my students light up the electrical circuits - their confidence, excitement, and appreciation for science will also light up!
I have selected equipment that the students will love and that will help them master 4th grade science concepts. It is important that students have an opportunity to conduct hands-on experiments. It is critical that students have the opportunity to ask a question and create the experiment to answer their own question. That leads to life-long learning.
