My students need 8 Snap Circuits to understand parallel and series circuits. My students need 8 Snap Circuits Green to understand alternative energy sources.
"For most students academic learning is too abstract. They need to see, touch and smell what they read and write about." John Goodland. It is important that my students have hands-on experiences in order to have a true love of Science by the end of the year.
My fifth grade students are engaged in cooperative learning from the beginning of class to the end of class.
They participate in hands-on learning through inquiry experiences, lab stations, partner projects, and so much more. Since most of my students are visual and kinesthetic learners, hands-on inquiry and discovery is the best way that they learn.
Our school is in a diverse area culturally and economically. Each student comes to me with a variety of educational experiences but are all eager to learn. They enjoy experiments and projects in which they can create a product.
My Project
If my classroom had the Snap Circuits and the Snap Circuits Green, they would have the opportunity to use them during Science Activity Time. These two kits would not only enable the students to understand the process of electricity, but also see how alternative energy sources can be used to create electricity, two major units in our fifth grade class. The kits offer 200 mini-projects they can create. My students got a sneak peak of Snap Circuits recently and absolutely loved them! I am hoping to have enough kits in order to better serve all my students instead of just a small group at a time.
Donations to this project will improve my classroom by giving these students the hands-on educational lab activities they need to comprehend electricity and alternative energy.
Having a large number of kits enable the students to work cooperatively in small groups so that I can monitor their progress through questioning and observing their final products. The kits will allow me to structure my classroom so that I can address individual student needs in a small group setting.
