Electric Bass for Kids That Rock!

Help me give my students an electric bass guitar to provide harmony lines for our singing.

My Students

My students are energetic and creative. They love coming to music class twice a week. We're a Title I school with many musical opportunities. We have an after-school choir, an after-school world music drumming ensemble, band and orchestra. Students have opportunities to perform for families and the community at least once a year.

Music gives my students a creative outlet during their day.

They are often in the driver's seat of their class. The students decide where to take a lesson and how to improve their musicianship as individuals or as a class. They have opportunities to try new things in a supportive atmosphere and can refine their musicianship in areas they feel they are strong.

My Project

My students, especially the 5th graders, do a lot of singing while playing instruments. We utilize the World Music Drumming Curriculum, which teaches songs from cultures around the world. They learn the songs along with multiple instrumental parts, like ukuleles, recorders, drums, xylophones, and other non-pitched percussion instruments.

An electric bass would help me teach my students not only about harmonic progression, but give them hands on experiences with harmony.

I feel an electric bass would be very appealing to my oldest students. I would love to give them experiences with an instrument that may keep them interested in music after they move on to middle school and high school.
