My Students

My bilingual students are awesome readers despite the struggles they have to face coming from a low income households. Some have learned the amazing benefits of literature from their families, but the majority look to me for guidance, inspiration and motivation.

It's very difficult to get kids into reading.

Reading is not instant gratification like the million of technology options that surround them. I have to find great contemporary stories that speaks to them. Last year it was Wonder. This year, Ivan. These bilingual readers need a good story to help them dream and overcome please help!

My Project

It is extremely difficult to get bilingual students to read in Spanish. And they are the ones that need more practice and exposure! Some hurdles are out of their hands; the resources are scarce, the translations are awful, the stories ancient, and Spanish books are more expensive!

When I discovered that the wonderful and contemporary story of "The One and Only Ivan" had been translated into Spanish, I knew immediately I needed this class set.

It will help with our spring novel study, increase reading stamina, comprehension and continue to create a love for books!

I will use this class set for many years to come. And when the movie premieres all my students will feel so cool they read it in Spanish with their cool teacher Mr. Rodriguez way, way before.
