This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are enthusiastic, determined and dedicated learners. They come from various neighborhoods in Chicago and have the unique opportunity to learn Spanish in seventh and eighth grade. They could use your help.

In our class, we believe in learning through discovery.

Books offer an opportunity for us to devour culture, grammar and vocabulary in context.

Next year, we will continue to focus on developing growth mind sets. My students are looking forward to the challenge of reading more books in Spanish.

My Project

Spanish One at Disney II focuses on Comprehensible Input which allows students to interact with Spanish texts without having to understand every word. Therefore, this project will allow students to study El dia de los muertos through reading books.

El dia de los muertos is a Mexican celebration that is observed each year at the end of October and beginning of November.

Students will be better able to understand the cultural celebration through reading Tumba. This book is an easy Spanish reader containing just 170 new vocabulary words and many English-Spanish cognates. This will help students develop a stronger vocabulary and learn more about culture.
