This is a charter school of choice for motivated students who want to challenge themselves academically in a project based learning environment. The students at this school come from diverse backgrounds and socio-economic status.
Being as this is a charter school, funding is limited.
The school supports highly rigorous curriculum through project based learning. The students are not only taking core content classes but are also responsible to complete electives to meet Nevada graduation requirements. The funding for elective classes such as Art, Music, and P.E are extremely limited. The students are still required to meet a requirement for Health and Fitness for the state. Just receiving a P.E. credit is not enough for the students. They desire a highly rigorous and challenging P.E. curriculum that will help them achieve better physical and mental health.
My Project
This research based curriculum will enhance my student's learning with a research based approach that focuses on student growth. Lesson plans, activities, monitoring, and assessing will all be based on researched and proven practices. It will maximize the effectiveness of the p.e. program so that the students receive a rigorous and beneficial experience with exercise. The overall goal of this course is to improve perceptions of health and fitness across all students even if they traditionally have not been successful in this type of environment before. They will receive enduring knowledge of how they can change their lifestyle in health and fitness for their personal betterment.
