This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Water is vital to our health and wellbeing! My students are very active, and this can lead to them being very thirsty. Whether they are playing sports during their elective classes or climbing four levels of stairs to get to their next academic class, they are energized and it is important that they are properly hydrated. Unfortunately, with so many students and so few water fountains around the school, getting water between classes can be challenging. When my students are not able to get water during the change of classes, their only other option is to leave class during instruction. Leaving class during instructional time to visit the water fountain in the hallway, can not only mean missing out on learning time, but also disrupting other students. Fortunately, a water dispenser in the classroom can provide a wonderful compromise.
Having a water dispenser in the classroom means that students can remain in the classroom to take advantage of valuable instructional time and stay hydrated, ready to learn.
Long term, water dispensers in the classroom can promote drinking more water. Increasing water intake has also been shown to have a positive impact on overall health.
