Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a low income 2-way 50-50 dual language program for both kindergarten and first grade students. Half of my students are native English speakers and half are native Spanish speakers. In my classroom students are exposed to the Spanish language in an environment that allows for hands on and engaging activities that foster their development of reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
I love the thirst of knowledge that exists in these children and I seek to deliver epic lessons to inspire them to become lifelong learners.
My Project
I teach science in a Spanish dual language immersion program. What better way to engage students in learning than by hands on activities that link to real world situations and occupations.
I want to take learning to the next level for these students by exposing them to scientific processes in Spanish, later we will bridge their conceptual knowledge and academic language to English.
Teaching the scientific processes of life via the egg cycle while also sparking connections and exposure to the world of 4-H and agriculture will undeniably provide a memorable and engaging experience for all learners involved in the process.
