Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When you were in kindergarten, do you remember the joy of marching around the room with rhythm sticks or shaker eggs? Did you love to play the triangle or shake your wrist bells? Your donation will give impoverished children memorable experiences learning with music.
Our school is in a high poverty area.
All students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Some children live with many families in one house or even in a garage. Most families speak a language other than English at home. Parents are sometimes illiterate with little or no education themselves. Families may not have much, but they love their children dearly. We have many parent and grandparent volunteers involved in the school. Most children come to school clean and with homework done.
My Project
For ten years I was spoiled by having rhythm instruments for my kindergarten classes. At the beginning of the year I always write "instrument of the week" on every page of my lesson plan book. Our curriculum emphasizes rhythm as part of learning to read. The children love to shake their eggs along with a poem, do rhythm stick dances for following directions, ring their triangles as they sing rhyming verses, and shake bells around their ankles as they march with math songs. Now I have moved to a new school and had to leave the rhythm instruments behind at my former school.
Would you please help make happy and vivacious musical learners out of my new kindergarteners?
The sturdy instruments and the two rhythm stick compact discs I have requested will provide joy and learning for many years of kindergarten classes.
