I have the best job in the world. Each day, I walk into a classroom full of color and life. Then, my day gets even better when my 23 bright and unique four-year-olds walk into the room with excitement and eagerness to learn.
I am a K4 teacher in South Carolina, and my classroom is made up of at-risk four year old children who are gearing up to be the best version of themselves in kindergarten.
It is my job to build their foundation and love of learning and to provide a safe, nurturing, and challenging environment for them to thrive in. Many of my students are already behind when they enter my room, and I have the difficult job of bridging these gaps so they can be successful.
My Project
My students learn best from hands-on experiences to build their vocabulary and knowledge. This automatic incubator for hatching eggs will be a 21-day experience that teaches children about life cycles and allows them to see firsthand from start to finish how a chick is hatched. They will get to experience the growth each day and what is happening inside the eggs. They will get to see that little beak popping through, and they will also learn what it takes to care for a baby chicken once it has hatched out of its shell.
With the automatic incubator, instead of worrying about manually turning the eggs, regulating the temperature and humidity, I can focus more on my students and facilitating learning in the classroom!
This is an experience my students will remember forever.
