Dear Sir, I am a push-in sceince teacher for the primary grades(K-2). I work in P.S. 139Q in NYC. In our school, there are about 900 students, half of them live in poverty level, I want to teach life-cycle through a hands-on project:egg-hatching. The whole project takes 21 days. Most of these students have never seen anything like that before. It will be a sensational project that these youngsters will remember for the rest of their life. I have 4 classes in the 2nd grade (about 120 students). I need incubator with automatic turner, a breeder, and a dozen fertilized eggs. The cost is about $200-250 for a set. I wish to have more than one set for each classrooms, so that classroom teachers will not fight to have the incubator in her classroom to satisfy the kids' curiosity. However, I will be very happy to have at lease one to get me started. About 120 students of 2nd grade will observe the eggs, make chart, measure the temperature and humidity of the incubator everyday. They will write in their science journals about how the eggs change and grow and then turn into chicks. The chicks will need food and a home (breeder) to survive etc. The first graders (about 150 )and kindergarteners(about 100)will to visit those chicks, when they come to 2nd grade, they will do the details just like 2nd graders. When I mentioned about the project, the kids got really excited. Can you image what a huge impact it will have on these youngsters? So please support me with the materials I need. Let's all do our best to set kids' minds on real life science, and make this sensational project happen. I thank you very much on behalf my four hundred students in advance.
