Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds, many with English as a second or third language. Students at my school come from 18 different countries and 39 languages are represented. 85% of my students qualify for free and reduced lunch.
"I can do hard things!" are words that I hear often in my classroom.
Kindergarten students are naturally inquisitive and love to learn through hands on, inquiry based learning. With such a diverse classroom with language barriers, students can learn and communicate through technology and hands on learning. Without proper materials and equipment, it is impossible to provide them with the necessary learning that they will need to be successful adults.
My Project
An organized classroom is a classroom that is learning. All students deserve a classroom in which they know where supplies are kept, their personal belongings must be stored, and where teacher materials belong. Efficient storage is a must to optimize learning space and minimize distractions.
Small children learn best when they have easy access to learning materials in a non-cluttered environment.
Organization also helps me teach in a more efficient manner with access to all materials quickly. The storage bins and rack for this project will be used to organize an extensive guided reading library for all kindergarten teachers in our building.
The sterilite bins and shoe boxes will be used to store learning manipulatives, science materials, legos, and hands on materials that students will need access to daily. The clear nature of the bins makes it easy for the students to get the materials they need without searching needing to open multiple containers to find the right materials.
