I'm a Resource teacher working with a diverse group of special needs students ranging in ability levels. My students need support with reading, writing, math and executive function skills. I service students with attention deficit disorder, processing delays and a variety of other learning disabilities.
Optimizing resources to support optimum learning is our goal.
My students are eager learners who have individualized education needs that I want to target when I have the opportunity to work with them. Our time together is quick and valuable. Providing resources in our classroom that are easily available, efficient and accommodating are a necessity and a benefit for these students.
I'm grateful to donors who are willing to support these awesome students!
My Project
In our Resource classroom, we support students with completing tasks so they can feel accomplished and successful. The students arrive in the classroom ready to work! Providing an engaging activity that supports their learning and goals, and is ready for them to begin, is the key to our operation. Paper and pencil work; but, that can take time to prepare, organize and transition from one Resource session to the next. Not to mention the waste of paper. Many academic lessons and assessments are offered electronically, eliminating some of the time in preparation and organization, and even data maintenance, of paper and pencil tasks.
When the activity is presented on an iPad, the students are especially engaged and the lessons flow with efficiency.
The nice thing about an iPad is its convenience in storing, distributing to students and handling in the classroom. Students can take them easily to another room or sit with them on the floor. Their touchscreens allow for interaction with an application using a finger or a stylus. The reading program we utilize offers an electronic version. Providing the electronic version on an iPad, as compared to our laptops, allows the students to use a stylus to underline vowels and letter patterns as part of the decoding exercises. With your help, we can have iPads available for our special needs students in the Resource program and provide efficiency with classroom management, organization, using less paper, and student engagement.
