Ms. D. Harris from Milwaukee WI is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students tools for an efficient math classroom. We are in need of a long lasting electric pencil sharpener, pencils, and student planners to keep track of assignments.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are open minded, brave teens who are learning in a bilingual, integrated classroom.
School is not easy for my students - imagine learning a new culture, a new language, high school academics, and how to live daily with your disability.
Many are new to the United States and are simultaneously learning academics and a new culture. About 60% of my students prefer to use Spanish to communicate.
I am responsible for 21 students with special needs who are looking to learn alongside their peers in the classroom. These 21 students have been diagnosed with disorders ranging from Emotional Behavior Disorder to Autism to Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
The materials requested for our classroom are items for the 2019-2020 school year that help our students remain organized daily. As a public school teacher in Milwaukee, I have noticed that, with a lack of supplies - the time spent in the classroom is less efficient. In our bilingual algebra and geometry classroom, our students work very well with assigned folders to hold completed work (for easy reference in the future), available pencils and sharpeners, planners to keep track of assignments, and cleaning supplies for quick messes.
I co-teach in a math classroom that services about 130 bilingual students total - including 21 teens with special needs.
They are in need of supplies to assist with organization. Our high school does not provide students with planners - this is something that my students desperately need in order to remember important tasks and assignments. These planners also help us to communicate with their parents.
File folders are kept in the back of our algebra and geometry classroom - one folder per student. This is very helpful for our students with special needs who are allowed to look back at old assignments for help with in classroom assessments.
We believe in a community classroom - we all pitch in to make the classroom a comfortable environment for all students. We study together, teach together (yes, some students are helping their peers to understand concepts), and we clean together.
