My track and field and cross country athletes at my school are simply incredible human beings. They ask nothing for themselves, and give all that they can.
Despite coming from some very challenging situations and home lives, my athletes are a blessing.
My school has more than 80% of its students qualify for free and reduced lunch, and for a majority of my students, English is their second language with the United States being their second home. They are true kids-at-heart, and are eager to learn and experience new things as they grow into young adults.
My Project
Part of becoming a young adult is learning the whys and hows of taking care of your body. My athletes frequent local gyms and fitness studios for strength and conditioning, but most don't know how to navigate and utilize the equipment found there.
In the off-seasons, I stay after school every day to provide my cross country and track athletes space and time to train for success in their chosen sports, however, there is a problem.
The problem my athletes face is that aside from running and training outside in the rainy Pacific Northwest, improving cardiorespiratory endurance indoors becomes challenging without proper equipment, especially in the winter months when off-season training is critical.
A donation from you would allow me to purchase 2 indoor ellipticals to be used by my track and cross country athletes during their respective seasons, in addition to after school in the off-seasons, to help improve their heart health and endurance, which translates to success on the field of competition.
