I am a special education teacher, working in the same school district for 11 years now. The district I work for is a low income, high poverty neighborhood in Texas, a Title I school in San Antonio.
The students I work with qualify for special education services for various reasons.
My students all have different learning styles. They come in from the general education classroom to receive small group instruction in a small, less distracting environment.
My goal is to provide them with every opportunity available to become academically successful.
I am requesting travel money for lodging, transportation, and food for the opportunity to attend my first professional development GYTO conference in Houston. This conference will allow me to gain new strategies for teaching reading and math skills that I can implement in my special education classroom. I am confident that the knowledge I will gain from this conference will help me to become an even more effective educator.
I will go back to my campus, use these strategies to help the students in special education, igniting their fire to build a passion for learning.
At this conference, I will learn how to organize my students into differentiated groups and manage math and reading groups efficiently in accommodating each child's individual needs. I would love to be the first special education teacher at my school to attend this inspirational conference.
