My students have a desire to learn and grow. We are an inner city public school with minimal resources. Not only are we an inner city public school, many of our students come from difficult home settings, in which, often times cannot provide them with some of the most basic scholastic resources. The majority of our students will never experience some of the educational tools that more affluent schools can provide; therefore, it is important that we at least have an adequate amount of the basic resources.
Over the course of the time spent with my students, the constant positive reinforcement and assurance of the importance of education has really started to pay off in the form of effort put forth in the class day in and day out.
This has led to a discovery in personality and ambition that some previously have had no interest. Many are now much more eager to learn than they once were and they understand the importance that an education holds.
My Project
One thing about teaching is that one can never have enough writing utensils. Therefore I am requesting a box of 144 pencils. As much as I hound the students to bring their own pencils, the reality of it is many of them do not have the resources to obtain these materials. Something that I have discovered during my tenure as a teacher, is the students love hands on activities. I am requesting an inflatable globe as I think it would be a great resource to keep students engaged or re-engage them if need be. It is a fun interactive resource and my students would love it. We do a lot of project in my class, many of which require tape so I am requesting a box of tape for those activities. Being that I am a social studies teacher, one can never have enough maps so I am requesting a world map to hang somewhere in the classroom for the students to use as an interactive resource.
The resources I am requesting are not very costly, however they are items that I need to frequently purchase and that starts to add up after a few shopping trips.
My student's deserve to have a good education and a big part of that is having an adequate amount of resources. The items that I am requesting are items in which my students have specifically asked for, which makes it that much more important. They understand the importance that their education has on the success of their future and I would like to provide them with anything necessary in order to fulfill their drive in obtaining a good/meaningful education!
