My students need some supplemental reading that will engage their minds and give us discussion material. Our textbooks are outdated; the Scholastic magazine can help supplement the reading for my Gifted and Talented students.
My students are part of the gifted and talented program in our middle school. I teach English/Language Arts to the students.
Most of my students are high level readers who eat books for breakfast.
I would love to find some supplemental reading material for my classroom. Our school's textbooks are older than the students. It would be nice to have something more current for reading and discussing.
We visit the library weekly and the students check out three to four books at a time. They love reading. I am a very lucky English teacher. I would love to offer them more in the way of reading. Although we have novels available, many of my students have already read them. The various supplemental reading texts that I can find are mostly new to my students which they appreciate.
My Project
My Gifted and Talented students are voracious readers. It is hard to find reading material that will engage their minds. I am constantly looking for supplemental reading that can add to the complexity of my classroom. In addition to the novels we read, I would love to have a literary magazine that offers current reading from a variety of genres.
Our current textbooks are out of date.
The Scope Magazine will offer various types of reading which can connect to our novels, provide current event study, and offer discussion material. It will help supplement the reading in my classroom. We will use the stories in the magazine as discussion material in our Socratic discussions, especially the ones with current events. We can also explore story elements in the stories that are presented in the magazines. The magazine will offer us a year subscription with enough copies for the students in my classroom.
