My students need fun, educational board games and activities for cold, indoor recess days which provide opportunities for teamwork and for practice with math skills, word work, and reasoning skills.
Our school offers a liberal arts, college preparatory curriculum that gives students a foundation for a lifetime of learning and discovery. High expectations are an important part of our school culture, and students are encouraged to work hard and strive to achieve their full potential.
In order for our students to reach that potential, they need a learning environment that is not "one size fits all".
Each of our student's needs is different, and the classroom materials and work spaces should reflect that.
My Project
Brrrr! It’s cold in Colorado right now, and as a result, we often have the need to keep our kiddos inside for recess.
Our current selection of fifth-grade-appropriate educational board games and activities could use a boost!
I am requesting games like Yahtzee, Farkle, and Equate, which will give students an opportunity for fun, while practicing their math skills. Scrabble, Play on Words, and Boggle will be great for word work. Finally, students can put their strategizing and logic skills to the test with classic games like Checkers, Chess, Mastermind, and Othello!
My plan is to reinforce all board game boxes with clear packaging tape and to laminate all paper instructions so that our new games will last for many 5th grade classes and recesses to come.
