State budget cuts have depleted my funding which has a direct effect on my students. My students deserve access to up to date curriculum and the opportunity to be provided with a thorough education.
My students are high school students in grades 10-12.
I teach special education and teach the history's and sciences in a resource room setting. We learn best with hands on activities, group discussions, and project based learning. Much of the history classes they have encountered before are not able to go in-depth in the more current events. I intend to design a unit which covers these topics to give my students a better view of where our history is taking us.
My Project
I am requesting workbooks which cover WWII, The Korean War, The Vietnam War and the Iraqi War. Unfortunately for many - war has touched my students on a personal bases and I believe we must participate in an in-depth unit to grasp an understanding of a complex problem. I am also requesting supplies for my science classes such as petri dishes and astronomy information. My students learn best when they can get their hands on the materials and engage in class discussions with each other.
Walk into any boardroom and what do you see?
You see adults working together, tackling issues, identifying problems, brainstorming solutions, and implementing strategies. This is the direction I wish to lead my students with the workbooks I have requested. Students will dive into the background of these wars, make decisions based upon the information gathered and follow through with where these decisions may have taken them. Students will engage in a complete project based learning activity.
