Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class is comprised of an amazing group of individuals! I have a myriad of different learners, including resource students, reclassified second language learners, and gifted students. They are a group of smart young minds who try hard and aim to succeed! Over half of my students are from a low socioeconomic status and are part of the free lunch program.
These kids are energetic, aspiring, and have voracious appetites for modern learning.
These adorable darlings are constantly making connections with each other and our school. I already have this personal link because I am a former Vintage student. In fact, I'm now teaching in the same first grade room that I attended as a first grader. Talk about full circle, the investment in Vintage is strong!
My Project
My students need an iPad to weave technology into their learning. These days, students very adept at using technology to to explore, experience, and engage in different facets of daily life. This overlap of learning and technology also includes the classroom environment.
During our Fable Study Unit, students use the iPads in several important and exciting ways.
They go online to research different fables and look up challenging words. Students use a graphic organizers on the iPad to map the story and do character analysis. After they write their own parallel fable stories, small groups use the iPads to voice record the stories and take photos of their original illustrations. Lastly, they use the iPad to create a QR Code for peers and parents to view their work. The iPad adds inspiration, enthusiasm, collaboration, efficiency, and creativity to student learning.
Of course, the iPad will have many other uses in the classroom. During small group rotations, students will use it for reading reinforcement and math practice and growth. We will use a green screen app to take pictures of the students at historic monuments. We also use a comic app to summarize stories, show character dialogue, and create science diagrams and food chains. The iPad uses within the classroom are endless and oh-so valuable! My students can't wait to get their hands on it.
