Mrs. Littig from Concord CA is requesting Educational Kits & Games through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

Educating Young Engineers

My students need LEGO to explore the science behind simple machines. They're great tools for open ended design challenges. Kids collaborate and use verbal skills with these LEGO sets and learn the Engineering Design Process.

My Students

My students are excited and eager to learn in the 21st Century. It's an exciting time to be a 7 year old.

Every year is different and this year I am blessed with a very curious class.

We have "Googled" many questions since the first day of school. The students at our school are mostly from low-income families, 90% are on an assisted lunch program.

My students all speak another language at home, other than English. I teach them English, half of a dual language program. Many are reading below grade level in English. I fully believe without engagement there is no learning. I know I can hook them into learning through technology and science experiments. Who doesn't like to have interactive tools?

My Project

LEGO has stood the test of time. Today they are perfect as a tool for my students to further explore the Engineering Design Process.

There are many great STEM challenges that young students can build solutions to using LEGO Bricks!.

As it says on the LEGO STEM Activities - The STEM Laboratory web site, "Even with competing video and computer games, most kids still love building with bricks. These fun LEGO STEM activities give children hands-on practice with science, technology, engineering, and math – skills they’ll rely on for years to come." They will work in teams, and decide what project they will complete, and finally present their design solutions to the class.
