Everyday my students seek me out to ask the famous question... What are we doing in P.E. Class today? My students love being active and look forward to trying out different activities through sports and team building. We have a diverse population here with 54% Asian and 29% Hispanic ethnicity. The other side of our diversity is our English Language Learners... 45% of our students have English as NOT their first language (ESL) and 40% are English Language Learners. Add on top of that 83% are high need students and 63% are at an economical disadvantage!
A majority of my students do not get any type of physical activity outside the classroom.
Many are not allowed out of the house because they have to babysit their siblings since their parents work a night shift. With all the stress and responsibility at home, they manage to come to school with a smile on their face and enjoy coming to class to release their stress and have fun.
My students say "Ball is Life!!" My students look forward to coming to my class once a week. The first thing they want to grab is a basketball and shoot around til class starts. My resources are limited and I do not have enough equipment to supply all of my students. The use of basketballs in my class creates motivation and socialization!
These basketballs and mesh vests would make a difference in providing my class the equipment needed to shoot around, play mini games while socializing, and allow me to introduce different activities and have the amount of basketballs to successfully keep every child active and involved!!
