We would like to start an edible garden at our school. The purpose of this garden is two-fold. The first reason is to teach our students about living a healthy lifestyle and show students where vegetables come from. The second is to provide a place for students to experience serenity.
Our students come from a variety of backgrounds.
Our school is ethnically diverse as well as socio- economically diverse. A lot of our students are ELL (English Language Learners). Our students love to come to school each day to learn and grow. We are very lucky to have a school with space and children who love all learning experiences. Due to the economy and huge surprise enrollment we have a very limited budget for anything. We however, find that a garden is project that will have many benefits to our loving students.
My Project
We are requesting money to buy supplies to create 5 raised organic vegetable gardens. The gardens will be located next to the trailers we our using as classrooms in the back of the school. The gardens will provide a place for students to work outside in a hands-on fashion. The students will be in charge of deciding what to plant and what to make with the harvest. The staff and many parent volunteers are also interested in this project. It would be a true community garden.
