This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
How can students see the role salamanders and tree frogs have in North Carolina Piedmont's ecosystem?
Our school borders some great property that has a creek and a pond, but we are not able to access these resources. In order to show the importance of our areas natural resources, how the plants and animals interact in their environment, and how energy is transferred in the food web, having a model of a freshwater ecosystem would bring all this information to my students right before their eyes. My students come from a very urban environment and do not often get to see the natural world first hand.
I teach Environmental Science to all of our students in grades K through 5. Every grade level touches on biology, especially plants and animals and their habitats. Having a real model of a freshwater ecosystem that the students can observe is a great way to bring science alive, to all students. This is especially true with so many of our students who come from a very urban part of town.
Your gift will make it possible for all my students at all grade levels to experience a fabulous ecosystem that they otherwise may never get a chance to see
