This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
If you do not have the internet at home, why would you want to use it in class if it is too difficult to maneuver? My class is lucky to have some mini-laptops but there are not any mouses and the students get very frustrated when the finger pads do not respond and buttons get stuck.
My students are eager learners.
They mainly feel that the they have been short changed by the system with unmotivated teachers. They are economically challenged and live in an urban area. The school provides an outlet and opportunity to escape the poverty and crime that surrounds their homes. The school has a large population of African American students. Many do not have access to internet outside the school day. A lot of the students join extracurricular activities hoping that will help open up door for them after high school is done. Some stay after school even though they do not need to, just to stay away from whatever is waiting for them at home.
My Project
My students will be able to use mouses to maneuver through the internet more efficiently and complete online learning activities. In our class we use the internet almost daily to check stock prices, have virtual field trips, complete research assignments, take online assessments and use study guides from a variety of internet sources. With mouses their computer skills will improve and also add to their development of internet browsing.
By donating to my project you will be improving the skills of High School Seniors.
Their ability to navigate the internet will greatly improve with the addition of mouses to their mini-laptops. The students will be able to use the internet and laptop to its full potential to complete their assignments and assessments while incorporating todays technology. Also, this additional technology can be uesed for college applications and scolarships that are very hard to do without a mouse.
