Mr. Santiago from Milwaukee WI is requesting classroom basics through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a space to vent, reflect, cool down, and take an opportunity to be mindful of their behavior. They need school supplies, snacks, books, etc.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

The majority of my students are deemed as EBD (Emotional Behavioral Disorder). Students diagnosed with EBD can can have a difficult time meeting the expectations as well as follow the policies and procedures of the school with fidelity, resulting in their detention, suspension, and ultimately expulsion.
As a result of their disability, students with EBD are three times more likely to be arrested before the end of high school and have a graduation rate of approximately 40%.
My students need an oasis to blow of steam, be creative, and be comfortable away from the distractions that can occur in the regular education classroom. For most part, our district has eliminated EBD/MRP classes, especially at the high school level. As a result of this change, some students are not able to get the attention they need to address their behavior. Teachers are often charged with the sometimes difficult task of managing challenging behavior/trauma. Furthermore, students who transfer from a restrictive setting have a difficult time transitioning to high school. This room will serve as an intermediary as well, helping student transfer into the least restrictive environment.
This project includes a wide array of resources for my students to help establish a sense of calm, comfort, and ultimately a home away from home. This project will cover classroom materials, snacks, books, as well as materials to make the room stand apart from a typical classroom.
With your donations, we can successfully create a safe space for students where they can reflect of their behavioral, emotional, social, and transitional skills.
This project ultimately can give students a closer connection to our school in addition to giving them a space to vent, reflect, cool down, and take an opportunity to be mindful of their behavior. Your donation will help solidify a safe space for my students. As previous stated, the room revival project has a wide variety of materials to build a harmonious learning environment for my students. This includes an aquarium to help calm students, giving them a direction for their attention so have easier access to a mindful state. In addition, I have included a numerous amount of books to build a classroom library. I have included a series of supplies such as pens, pencils, crayons, and markers for my students so they can complete work and projects given to them in the inclusion setting. The project also has a number of posters including positive quotes and phrases as well as posters of their favorite musical artists. I want them to feel at home in the space so I asked them who some of their favorite artists were! Lastly, I am asking for a number of snacks for my students. Often the only meals that my students have are the ones served in school. I want to make sure that they aren't so focused on their hunger and that they are more focused on their learning.
