Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My scholars are in a charter school that provides free breakfast and lunch to all 365 students. Their parents are working class parents from the local community. My students receive special education services in the domains of ELA and math. I am continuously looking for new ways to provide enrichment to my scholars whether it is in person or remote. However, as our school doors open back up I am discovering how much my scholars need hands-on engagement to encourage participation in classwork completion.

My Project

Often times this year my students arrive in the building without eating breakfast or the students refuse school provided breakfast. I know I am more pleasurable if I have eaten a snack. This year I’ve calmed and refocused students by offering a snack, like Chex mix or crackers. Sometimes we just need a snack to fill that void and our mood gets instantly changed to a more POSITIVE and ACCEPTING mindset. Therefore, if I have snacks on hand I can prevent unwanted cranky students who willingly participate in a lesson. Everyone needs a little boost of energy throughout the day!
