In our first grade classroom we are always active. We have several areas where group learning takes place and many times students are working in pairs or small groups too! Our classmates are very diverse in their basic and academic needs and we all work together to achieve learning for all!
The students in my classroom are typically children at high risk of not succeeding in school.
Every student learns that our school is a safe environment and they are encouraged and supported to learn to their greatest ability! Every school year there are some students with health concerns or special needs. Truancy is a substantial issue. All our teachers and staff work together, put in extra hours, and are clearly 'there for the children'. It is a great place for learning!
My Project
We are lucky that our school district supplied 10 iPads for our classroom learning. These headphones will allow each student to access the learning games and stories on the iPads and also on the classroom CD player. Our reading curriculum also has an online aspect, which includes spelling, reading, listening, and other phonics activities. These activities are differentiated for each student, so each student needs to be able to access them individually.
The ability to use these headphones in our classroom will enable students to have higher access to differentiated learning.
Some students currently have headphones, but they are inexpensive and are in poor condition. Sharing headphones is not a good idea with the possibility of sharing undesirable hygiene issues. These headphones will also be easy to clean since they are not foam. Volume control will also help each child control the sound they need.
