My students need fiction and nonfiction books that are easy to read, so they can practice reading in class and at home daily.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Practice makes perfect. Reading is no different than anything else. If you want to get better, you need to practice a lot. Each year I have a group of reluctant readers and I've found the way to reach them is to offer them a wide variety of books that they can read easily.
My second graders are diverse in every way.
Academically, they stretch from non-readers to students reading and comprehending at a fourth grade level. They come from various backgrounds as well. Some have a lot of support at home while others have very little. What my students have in common is they all are eager to learn and want to be good readers.
My Project
Our classroom library is in need of more books that are easy for my struggling readers to read. These students need to practice a lot, and the problem is that they make it through our collection of level 1 books before they are ready to read level 2 books. Then, they have to reread the books, and that isn't as engaging for them. They love new books so adding books to the library is a great way to spark their interest and increase their enthusiasm.
Good readers do better in every subject, so it is important for all students to be good readers.
With your support, my students will have more than 30 new books so they can practice reading and become better readers. Thank you for considering our project.
