Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am so blessed to be allowed to teach a self-contained primary special education class at Nightingale Elementary School! Nightingale is a year round school and the principal is Maureen Savas. She is so awesome as a principal and person and I am so grateful to work with her.
My students are severely learning disabled and have Spanish as their primary language. Most of the children understand English to a certain degree. I would like to get a classroom library of books for beginning readers who are learning English As A New Language. It would be really helpful if we could get 3 listening centers with headphones and the books on CD or cassette so the children could listen as they learn to read along. By adding the listening center component of the reading books, the children can use visual and auditory skills to learn to read, so they can see and hear the words of the story.
My class currently consists of 12 students ranging from grade one through grade four with a variety of academic, social and emotional needs. I teach all subjects to my students such as math, language arts, science and social studies.
I love reading, I love learning and I love being a teacher. My students may never get the privilege of being a teacher, but I would be so happy if they could learn to love books as much as I do.
