Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class of 1st graders try their best everyday. They encourage each other and develop many skills through the process. They understand that our classroom was open because high enrollment and I am still working on getting our classroom supplies. Our class had no supplies in September.
The school is located in a high poverty area, with a low classroom supply budget.
When my classroom was open due to high enrollment, it happened to be after all the other classrooms received funding for their classroom (although not much). My class got a box of pencils from another teacher being kind and giving. Some of my student's are still trying to learn English and need as many visual ads as possible.
My Project
This easel will vastly improve student literacy as they have a tool to help them learn to read and spell through magnetic letters, word magnets, dry-erase pens, and chart paper that can be attached at the top. They will be able to craft stories (children dictate stories while the teacher writes what they say, requesting children to come up to the board and assist with phonetically spell words, punctuation, etc.) through daily interactive reading and writing. Finally, their access to this resource as a literacy tool will not be restricted to the front of the room, but rather can be transported to a variety of locations and activity centers.
Donations will get my student's one step closer to feeling like a normal functioning classroom.
It will give them easier access to learning. We enjoy learning and we LOVE working in small groups. The children love the opportunity to be in charge of their own learning. This not only provides us with additional learning opportunities, but additional working space.
