A typical day in my classroom is spent exploring. We explore books, ideas, objects and ourselves. Not one day looks like the next and that is what makes my job the best adventure there is.
My school is a Title 1 school with many kids who eat 2 of their 3 meals with us.
They love coming to school and often would rather stay in school than go home for the holidays. Many of my students have not traveled outside of our state on vacations and are tickled with the chance to earn the chance to have a special outing to "Subway" for lunch with their teacher. My students don't take things for granted, yet don't know how much there is to see in the world around them. Our school works hard to create students who are academically prepared as well as community minded.
My Project
My classroom has 28 students. We have enough desk and storage space for our belongings, however, wall space is limited. Much of our day is spent working together on the carpet, at table groups, or centered around an exciting science project. We need a portable place to display our ideas and record our observations. My students consistently look back at previous work we have created. An easel/chart rack that can move around our classroom would be an excellent way.
My school budget cannot provide for extra organizational tools like this easel/chart rack.
Having this tool to create a long-lasting space for our charts, will help create a type of resource "book" for my students to refer to. I would not have to choose which charts can stay up on the wall and what has to come down or be covered. My goal is to create resourceful learners and having this chart rack would be an excellent help!
