Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a happy one! With 85% of our population at a low socio-economic level, challenges arise. Families are loyal to our small school and community - several generations have grown up and stayed in the area. The majority of my students have limited resources and academic support at home, but parents willingly contribute where possible. Our students are eager to learn and do best when I meet them where they are with opportunities that interest and engage them.

Our students need to deepen their understanding of the environment, endangered animals, and how their actions may affect the world around them.

I’m impressed with their eagerness to know more about their surroundings through science.

I would like Pacific Animal Productions to come to our school on Earth Day, April 22, 2020. I’ve tentatively reserved the assembly called Animals on the Edge. The students will be able to see some endangered animals and learn more about them. It ends with the wonderful success story of the alligator, who was taken off the endangered species list. Recycling and encouraging students to do their part is another focus of the program.

My Project

This program focuses on and highlights a few endangered animals that we share our planet with and what we can do to help them. We will discover the habitats and adaptations that are unique to each of the six animals presented and the challenges they face. All of it will be tied back to ways we can do our part to help them. Wonderful success stories will be shared, too.

The program will be engaging, entertaining yet always educational.

There will be audience participation and volunteer opportunities. Each student will get to pet 1 animal at the end of the program.
