My students come from a variety of cultures and have different levels of science skills. There are over twenty languages spoken at my school, but science can become a common language for all my scientists-in-training. The school is part of the International Baccalaureate program, which seeks to integrate multiple disciplines in order to provide a holistic learning environment for all students.
My monthly budget to plan science activities, labs, and projects is $0.50 per student.
This fact makes it difficult to plan satisfying, hands-on activities which engage all students and foster their love for learning. Any help received through this website would ensure students are exposed to multiple, true learning opportunities which introduce students to STEAM - science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
My Project
The globes, labs, models, kits, and other astronomy materials requested for this project add a much-needed hands-on component to the earth and space section of my 8th grade curriculum. Students are naturally engaged in astronomy, and the materials requested through this project will help gradually build up their understanding. Students will complete projects such as creating their own model of solar motion, simulate the different moon phases and create a model of the solar system. Once they understood the basic concepts about the solar system, they can investigate what other planets, such as Mars, are like or even see the effects of gravity. Thank you for becoming my partners in making science engaging for my students.
