I work as a Head Start teacher teaching 3 and 4-year-olds who come from all different backgrounds and abilities. Head Start serves children who are at or below the poverty level and who may or may not have experienced trauma and/or abuse. Right now with the distance learning going on, my kiddos don't have the literacy experience that they would be receiving daily in our classroom.
Many lack age-appropriate literacy materials at home and I am hoping through this project, that I can provide each child with two books for them to keep at their house.
My Project
These reading materials will help my students continue to be surrounded by early literacy at home. Many of my students lack age-appropriate literacy materials at home and I want them to be able to continue their excitement for reading, just as they did when we were in class.
My students enjoy learning about space, science, math, their environment and ways that they can be a good friend; these are just a few things they enjoy learning about.
Their excitement when I introduced them to a new book or learning material was truly priceless and I hope they can have that same experience at home when they receive these books.
