This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are curious, energetic preschoolers that come from a socioeconomic disadvantaged background. I have a diverse group of preschoolers who are easily motivated learners, whose minds are like sponges that are ready to be nurtured and molded. I teach at a primary school starting at grade 4k-3 in a rural area in the state of South Carolina. Our school is a Title I school with limited funding. One hundred percent of our students receive free breakfast, lunch, and snack.
My Project
To help my emergent readers become fluent readers, it is imperative that I read aloud to them often and with expression. One of the most exciting times of our day is read aloud time. These books will be read throughout the day during read aloud, center time, and individualization. These books will be placed in the classroom library, giving the students the opportunity to picture read on their own.
Reading aloud to my students is a great strategy that will help my students learn how to read with accuracy, speed, and understanding.
