I am in need of some resources to help actively engage my readers in reading and writing. I am requesting a desktop easel that has a pocket chart, magnetic surface, and whiteboard, letter sets and high frequency word sets for students to work with as they read, and materials to help highlight words in texts as students begin to read. My kindergarten students would greatly benefit from these functional and visually appealing teaching tools and they become early readers. The majority of my students are ESL students as well as very visual learners. I am a first year teacher and am looking to add appealing and functional resources to further set up my classroom and help make learning to read as exciting as possible for my young students.
In my kindergarten classes, I meet with students in small Guided Reading groups to actively work with students, as they become beginning readers and writers. A primary focus is developing students' literacy skills through working actively with the vocabulary in the text. I would like to help my students actively connect their letter and word knowledge with the texts we share in our Guided Reading groups and consequentially improve their writing. We are working a lot at identifying high frequency words in books we read together. Students practice writing words from the books on whiteboards and making them with magnetic letters.
The desktop pocket chart easel, whiteboard, and literacy materials would be a great addition to our reading groups. Many of my students are very visual learners and the easel would make a great reference they could actively see and work with as they read. With this donation, students can highlight words in texts, add new high frequency words to their vocabularies, practice writing and making the words, and have a tools to help them learn to read and write. My students and I would greatly appreciate and benefit from your donation.
